Well, knock me down with a feather.
I was going to write a piece apologising for being a slack-bum blogger over the last few months and write about how I wanted to sort this Blog out, when WordPress go and launch their PostADay/PostAWeek task. Don’t worry, I won’t be blogging everyday. My life really isn’t that interesting and I have a lot of other bits and pieces I want to accomplish this year which means I won’t be able to sit on my lazy-ass, bashing away at a keyboard constantly. Once a week should be enough, and if I find time to write more, all the better.
Anyway, here we are in 2011 and as completely unoriginal and typically boring a person as I am, I thought I’d write out a few things that I want to accomplish this year. I did the same last year and while it wasn’t exactly a resounding success, there were a few bits and pieces I actually managed to do OK in.
This year will potentially be busy for me and a lot of friends, mostly because of one thing – Babies. It seems like everyone is having one this year. I’d be tempted to make some cynical comment about how they must be 2011′s fashion accessory, but that’s not fair. The truth behind the baby-boom is far more obvious and human – there was nothing on TV (well, apart from Doctor Who).
If I manage to achieve even a quarter of the tasks I have set out, I’ll consider it a win. If I don’t… well, it’s not a matter of life and death (I hope) so it won’t really matter. The only people who might be disappointed in me is The Twitter and all who sail in her (oo-er), who are probably the only people who actually read this thing.
The list is as follows:
Run: It’s time to try and start this running malarky again. I’ve been off for about a year now and while I did cycle loads during the summer, it’s just not the same.
Write: This Blog being one of the various assorted word-splurges I want to try and maintain/improve. The other being last years NaNoWriMo entry which I would like to dust off, polish up and give away. After that, there’s this years entry to consider.
Garden: No, I’m not going to become the new Alan Titchmarsh or even the new Hugh Fernley Whittingstall, but having seen my house-mate’s bumper crop of fruit and veg last year from our garden, and her sense of self-pride, I decided that this year I’d like to join in too. I won’t know what I’m doing, so rather than going it alone and accidentally setting fire to the potatoes, I’ve offered to help my house-mate with her plot.
Read: A returning resolution as I didn’t do nearly enough of it last year, save for a book at the start of the year and Preacher towards the end. Preacher was feckin’ amazing, but I’ve got to make more of an effort.
Watch: Old things, new things, things I missed entirely. I want to use these crappy, grey weeks to get on and watch the various films and TV shows which I’ve been promising myself I’d get around to once LOST was finished. Now is that time.
Five seems enough things to be getting on with for the time being. I’ve already been for a run, sat down to write this and am about to watch the Banksy documentary “Exit Through The Gift Shop.” That’s covered three of the five in one day. Now if only I can keep it up.
Laters!
